Can Stomach Exercises Help Getting Rid of Belly Fat?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

When people generally talk about a flabby tummy, they actually mean the area below their navel which is really your lower abdominal region, rather than your stomach. So if you have extra fat there, and you want to find out about getting rid of belly fat, then read on.

The lower abdominal area has always been notoriously difficult to lose fat from. So as well as stomach exercises, you will also need to think about following a low fat diet as well. If you can add lower stomach exercises into your daily workout regime, and follow a low fat diet, you will be well on your way to both toning your belly and melting the fat.

Unfortunately the human body is not made in a way for us to target just one area to get rid of fat, so you will need to concentrate on a total body workout that also includes some stomach exercises in order to lose your belly fat. As you will also need to eat less calories than you burn you will also need to stick to a low fat diet for your belly fat to go.

There are some good lower abdominal exercises which will help to tone your abs, these are double left lifts, pelvic thrusts, and chair lifts. To get rid of the actual fat is where the low fat diet comes in.

For double leg lifts you should lie on the floor with your legs out in front. Your hands need to be placed behind your head, then you need to lift up your head and neck, just as though you were going to do a sit-up, but at the same time you should lift both legs slowly upwards, until they are about one foot off of the floor. Hold this for a few seconds and then slowly lower your legs back to the floor. Repeat this a few times and you should really notice your abdominal muscles are having to work hard!

You can find further stomach exercises on our website. If you follow these and mix up your workout routine you will soon start to see the muscles in your belly becoming toned.

The Real Way To Health For Life, Fads Not Included!

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Losing weight is a very common goal in todays world. Diseases caused by overweight and obesity are at epidemic levels all around the English-speaking world and countries in the developing world are catching rapidly with the obesity phenomenon.

There are a plethora of diet plans and fads out there now and the list grows daily. It is so confusing if you want to get sound advice as to how to go about effective weight loss. And everyone wants it to be quick and easy. Am I right ?

As an exercise physiologist, I get constantly bombarded with the latest fads but the basic principles still apply when it comes to weight loss or fat loss as it should more correctly be called.

The formula is that energy output needs to be greater than energy input. Simple ? Well, yes it is but with one qualification. The hardest thing for most people is motivation; having a big enough reason to get started and how to then develop good, ongoing habits for life.

The rest is your choice or preference. There are many machines, gyms, diets plans and so on, but these are all less effective if you have no powerful reason or reasons to start a healthy lifestyle. I have consulted with many people who wanted to make lifestyle changes but were not committed to doing whatever it took to develop habits that would last a lifetime.

Most of lifestyle and health behaviour is about change; out with the old bad habits and in with the new healthy routine

So, how to make the change? First you need to have a long, hard look at where you are currently. Have you put on much weight over the years? Is there are family history of heart disease?

There could be warning signs that you should change before something drastic happens. Once you have identified a powerful enough trigger, you are halfway to making the change/s you need to make. But if the reason is someone elses and not truly yours, once the excitement of a new programme wears off, you may find you are back to square one.

So, be aware and make sure you start with a strong resonating reason for change. It is the most effective way to ensure you get off on the right path and this will enable you to stay the course when times get tough.

The never say diet approach is about lifestyle changes. It is truly the only way to reliably beat the fads and the failure of the quick fix approach.
